FOIA and Washington County Jail Roster Records
Arkansas Code § 25-19-101 is the state FOIA law. It makes most Washington County jail records public. The Sheriff's Office has three work days to reply to a written FOIA request. Put the ask in writing. Mail or drop off the request at the Detention Center. Name the record and the date range so staff can find it fast.
Records held by the state Division of Correction are governed by Arkansas Code § 12-27-113(2)(A). Fees may apply for copies, and there is no fee waiver under state law. Plan to pay for any large pull. Large requests for bookings over many months can push past the three-day window.
For state background checks, the Arkansas Crime Information Center runs the criminal history system and the sex offender registry. The Arkansas State Police offers a mail-in background check for $25 at ark.org/criminal. Both work next to the Washington County Jail Roster for a full look.
Washington County is one of the busiest jails in Arkansas. The facility takes in bookings from the University of Arkansas football weekends, event arrests in Fayetteville and Springdale, and routine patrol arrests across a wide area. The Detention Center intake staff work around the clock. Because the jail is large, the alpha roster can show hundreds of names at any given time. Use the last name filter to narrow the list fast.
Release times can shift based on court schedule, bond posting, and paper processing. Do not plan on a release time from the roster. Call the jail for a current status, or set a VINE alert for a push update when status changes. Out-of-state holds may add days to a release window, so ask the jail staff about the current hold type.
